About Us

Retired Greyhounds South Lakes (RGSL) is a registered charity based at Beech Hill House, Witherslack, Cumbria, LA11 6RH to care for and find loving homes for retired Greyhounds who have either raced or decided racing wasn't for them. It's run by four Directors/Trustees with no paid staff, only volunteers. Two of the Directors/Trustees are Stuart and Jenny Stott who started fostering and homing greyhounds in July 2004. No kennels have ever been used - all greyhounds live in Stuart and Jenny’s home at Beech Hill House as they've always done.

The voluntary work Jenny and Stuart started in July 2004 is a memorial to their darling Penny (Popsi’s Gloria). Without her coming into their lives none of the voluntary work carried out since that date would have happened. In July 2004 they fostered and volunteered for a Scottish Greyhound Rescue, but finished fostering with them in November 2009 after having homed 87 greyhounds for them.

In December 2009 Stuart and Jenny became the Retired Greyhound Trust South Lakes branch, which started with just them and two greyhounds supplied by another branch. They later became known as Greyhound Trust South Lakes when the RGT was re-branded the Greyhound Trust. On the 30th June 2020 they left the Greyhound Trust to become independent, and at this point they had homed 569 greyhounds for them.

On the 1st July 2020 Jenny and Stuart, and all their volunteers and supporters went independent and their new name became RETIRED GREYHOUNDS SOUTH LAKES or RGSL. In becoming independent you can rest assured all monies donated and raised are going to the caring of and homing of the greyhounds here at the centre. There are no paid staff, only volunteers.

On the 13th October 2020 Retired Greyhounds South Lakes was entered onto the Register of Charities with the Registered Charity Number 1191786.
