When your Greyhound becomes an adolescent don’t be surprised if most of your earlier training suddenly goes out the window – it’s the hormones and what adolescents do! How to stop a dog from jumping up

The best way to prevent the problem is to teach the dog to sit on approach but for greyhounds and related breeds a stand on approach works better. Hold a tasty treat just below dog’s head height so that their attention is directed slightly downwards and ensure that they stand still for a few seconds before giving the treat. A few practice sessions usually gets the message across. Try to ignore any jumping during the training period and you should find that “approach and stand” becomes the norm as it is more rewarding than jumping.

Mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 1 tablespoon of water and mix to a paste. Cover the area with the paste and apply a dressing to keep it in place. Leave for 24 hours and the item to be removed should have come to. or near the surface to enable removal.
A thin slice of potato laid on top of the area and kept in place with a dressing over night will also do the same.

If your dogs starts loosing it’s nails for no apparent reason give your dog Omega3 capsules daily in large doses, the nail beds will heal and when the nails grow back they will do so and be normal. Our Sandy weighed 35 kg. - he had 6 x 1,000 mg Omega3 capsules with his food daily for about 6 months. We then dropped it by 1 capsule for another 6 months. then reduced it by another and so on. If a nail drops off it means you are dropping the dose too soon or too fast so reinstate a capsule for another few months before starting to reduce the dose again. Our Sandy reached a point where all he needed was the one x 1,000 mg. Omega3 capsule daily the same as the others.
