Charlie is looking for a home

We've had CHARLIE since October 2022, and he’s a super, very lovable lad now he’s been given time to overcome his anxiety.

Charlie is now absolute perfection in our house, he never steals food, will tell you when he wants to out for toileting, has no separation anxiety, eats his food well and is no problem at all. He’s come a long way since his arrival and we’re so proud of the progress he’s made. He loves meeting people, travels well in a car, and walks beautifully on the lead when no other breeds of dogs are around.

When he first arrived what was initially thought as aggression when he approached other breeds of dogs turned out to be extreme happiness. In early March 2023 Charlie lived with 2 whippets for 7 weeks whom he got on well with, respected the elder one by backing away if she growled at him, and ran with the younger one round their orchard.

It took 9 months before Charlie realised that if he stayed calm instead of barking and bouncing around life was more enjoyable. About the same time he started coming to us for cuddles instead of us having to go to him. Both were major milestones.  He sleeps on his bed by the side of my bed instead of being on his own a distance away, seems so much more at ease with himself, has put on some weight, and has a more contented look on his face.  He loves cuddles and playing with the other greyhounds in the garden.

If he sees no other breeds of dogs on his walks he’s beautiful on the lead. He now wears a Gencon head collar, and responds better near other breeds of dogs with someone whose calm and assertive because he reads anxiety in a person.   When we walk him, if he starts getting excited at seeing another dog we ensure he’s on a short lead, see if he will stand by our side, if not, walk him away, and wait until he calms down. Once calm he tends to be okay.

We noticed a lump on Charlies tail last autumn, which was removed with part of his tail but it wasn’t cancerous. Sadly his tail didn’t heal properly so most of it was removed. He’s now fine.
