Something to think about
Vets used to have one monthly pet health plan, but the equity company's who now own nearly 60% veterinary practices according to the BBC and other sources have realised they can make more money by using a number of monthly plans. If you choose one be careful to choose the one you are most likely to use, do a breakdown of the costs otherwise you will think you are saving money, when in fact you are paying more. Retired Greyhounds South Lakes are no longer with a practice owned by an equity company because of costs, the monetary targets the vets have to meet, which puts a lot of pressure on them, and added to our costs. The out of hours veterinary company they use is also owned by the equity company's, and they have the same targets to meet. We know of a family who were charged £600.00 to bandage a foot where a nail had come off one Sunday morning. Given NO pain killers and sent home with instructions to go to their vet in the morning to have the bandage changed and get pain killers - yet another consultancy fee to look forward to! Choose an independent veterinary practice because they don't have the same outside pressures and targets to meet. They may also have a number of monthly pet health plans as this seems to be the going trend. Which ever plan you choose do the breakdown first and read the small print. RGSL and our personal dogs now use Archway Veterinary Practice at Lindale near Grange-over-Sands. They are an independent practice with their own in house out of hours service.
We strongly feel people should fight back about the pressures vets and nurses are being put under, and the costs the equity company owned practices are charging us to look after our pets and SUPPORT INDEPENDENT VETS.
